Instant Press Comics Open Studio This Saturday!

This Saturday, the gentlemen over at Instant Press Comics will be hosting an open studio (like an open house but for awesome comic book art). A bunch of artists, writers and creators will be hanging out, drawing, displaying artwork and eating finger sandwiches (NOTE TO INSTANT PRESS: there better be finger sandwiches there!) I'll be there and I believe Andy will as well. I don't know who else will be attending artist/writer-wise but knowing the fine clientele of Instant Press, it should be a great time! If you're interested in attending, check out this info below:

Instant Press Comics Open Studio
Date: Saturday May 23rd
Time: 6 PM - 10 PM
Location: Instant Press Comics studio
5128 N Elston Ave
Chicago, IL 60630

Please RSVP to David Gruba (grubbmaster@ameritech.net)

Due to some scheduling clearing up, I should be able to have a table in the artist's alley at the Collector's Convention at the Oak Lawn Pavilion on July 12th. I'm awaiting word from the guy running it. I will post it in my con schedule when I get more info.

Just a reminder, the benefit for Josh Medors begins Saturday. To check out all 120+ pieces of art up for auction, click here. There are some truly awesome pieces in there from commissions to sketches to paintings and original comic pages from tons of great artists!

That's all for now, folks!

Motor City Con 2009: Day Two & Three

So another convention comes to a close! I had a blast this weekend. Thank you to all the great people who stopped by our table and gave us high fives and hugs and bought our cool stuff. Here's a buttload of pictures from Day 2 and 3. Check it out. Until next time, peace!

Motor City Con 2009: Day 1

I had a blast yesterday at the first day of Motor City Con. It's such a great convention. The artists are great, the guests are great (except for charging $15-$20 or more for autographs) and most importantly the convention-goers are great! Oh yeah, and soft pretzels and cheese are really cheap in Michigan! So we sold some books, did some sketches, some paintings, got some work done. We had a lot of people join our league of mustachioed people. It was really really awesome to see people walking around the convention wearing our mustaches. I better see them on today! So I got a buttload of pictures to put up yesterday so check it out.

Our first $2 of the day! Boom.

This is the Galactus piece I did for the Josh Medors benefit. This will be going up for auction on May 23rd. For more info, click here.

Magneto needs a shave.

Space Ghost!

The pencils to a Boba Fett painting I did

And the inks! I don't know why I didn't take a pic of the finished painting yet. I will today and I'll post it later!

And now we present the initial members of our league of extraordinary mustaches!

Aw yeah mustaches! (Art & Jimmy The Muscle)

That's it for now. I will have pics of Day 2 up tomorrow! But I gotta go now because The Honky Tonk Man is in our hotel lobby and I think he's crabby! Yikes!

Peas.

Motor City Con This Upcoming Weekend!

I don't have any new art to post today and I've been really busy so I wanted to post before I head off to Motor City Con on Friday. I'll be in the Artist's Alley all weekend with my cohort Andy Vanderbilt, spreading the word about mustaches and talking food. I'll have copies of The Great Sandwich Detective #0 for sale. I'll also have some goodies to give away. Plus I'll be doing sketches all weekend and I'll also have some original artwork on sale. So if you're in the Detroit area this weekend and wanna see some awesome art from some awesome artists and also give Taimak from The Last Dragon a high five, come on out to Motor City Con!

Peace,
Dave

P.S. I will be updating the blog all weekend from the convention with pictures of sketches and awesome people hanging out. Yeah!

Hurm (Via Chalk)

I know! I've been slacking! Shame on me! Exclamation points!

I have another chalk drawing to share. Stacey surprised me a couple weeks ago with one of those big boxes of Crayola chalk so I got cracking on some chalk drawings. I did another monster as well but that's on Stace's camera so I'll get that from her soon to put up here. I'm also going to try to put some actual drawings up soon too. I'm also gonna finally clean the snot out of my nose (what does that even mean?) and get working on GSD #1. I saw the style the GSD #0 will be printed in and it looks amazing.

I will have GSD #0 on sale at Motor City Con in a couple weeks. I'll also be doing sketches and giving out some other goodies. I might have some paintings for sale as well. I will be accompanied by GSD cover artist Andy Vanderbilt! (a.k.a. my lucha libre bodyguard El Tintorerra). Motor City Con takes places May 15th-17th at the Rock Financial in Novi, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit). The show has tons of great artists such as Art Baltazar (aw yeah man!), Tim Bradstreet, Mitch Breitweiser, Guy Davis and more as well as awesome media guests like Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher! I'm really looking forward to it as it's my first out-of-state convention! Click here for more info on the convention.

Without further ado, here's the star of Watchmen himself, Rorschach, in chalk form.

Hurm.

See ya!

Sunday Coloring Session With The Little Ones

My family got together today for Easter and as soon as my little cousins realized (again) that I draw, they busted out the Crayolas and demanded pictures. Okay, okay, so I asked for the Crayolas. So what?

Rebecca colored Franky and a blob-monster for me. And then she turned Franky in Francine apparently.

And here's Rebecca with her wonderful money portrait. She should take over Great Sandwich Detective for me.

Here's Allison with Captain America (her coloring job) and a bunch of colorful "cupcakes"!

And here's Mel with Thing 1!

That's all folks!

Big Announcement!

UPDATE: April Fools!

I was keeping it a secret all week but I'm finally allowed to announce it today. The press release will be up shortly:

DC Comics has signed me on to work on their Johnny DC line for kids. This line includes books like Tiny Titans, Batman Brave & The Bold, etc. It's not yet decided which book I will work on or if I will being starting a new title. I will be meeting with DC next week to discuss projects.

You have no idea how excited I am! More info will be up shortly, including a press release from DC Comics on their website. Go check it out!

Peace!
